The House of Silk, Anthony Horowitz

I did enjoy this story, although for many reasons it doesn't live up to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Holmes. I particularly enjoyed this little quote:

"Lestrade's eyes travelled to the mantlepiece and to the morocco case that contained a hypodermic syringe. I wondered how he had learned of Holmes's occasional habit."

 Hmmmm, I wonder...!!

Doyle would never have written a story like this, I don't think the readers of his time would have stood for it. It works today because unfortunately our society has seen much of this type of evil. Still, it was a nicely rounded piece, with a nice prologue and afterword by Watson about his adventures with Holmes, and what happened after the adventures stopped. A definite must read for any Holmes fan.

NB: Entered into the Hogwarts Reading Challenge 2012 under Defence Against the Dark Arts, as this book, as with many other Sherlock Holmes stories, involves a murder mystery. Furthermore, the ending is very dark and sinister.
