The Eye, Vladimir Nabokov

2/5

It's hard to review this book without giving the twist away, even though it is pretty obvious and the general reader will get it straight away. We follow the Narrator as he kills himself, and then goes on to narrate his life/afterlife/dream. He becomes obsessed over what people think about a man called Smurov, and Nabokov enjoys clever word-play to confuse the reader.

This is my second Nabokov book. I absolutely loved Lolita, but I'm afraid the same can't be said for this short book. I don't know what it was, but something about the story didn't really work for me. That said, I am still interested in reading more Nabokov, as I think Lolita was a brilliantly written book, and am eager to read more.
